ABOUT THE ARTIST
Dr. Benjamin Meyer-Krahmer
The drawings by Bertram Hasenauer open spaces of seemingly unlimited expansion that arise when the portrayed and the viewer look. Oscillating between introspection and observation, his pictures subvert the boundaries of inside and outside. Imagination and perception overlap.
Dr. Benjamin Meyer-Krahmer
The portrait-like pictures by Betram Hasenauer form a typology of the contemporary. Each individual exists as an image of reality without being the realistic representation of an identifiable individual. Each is developed from different models and, through the intermediate medium of photography, draws on a wide variety of people and gestures. All of them combine features and characteristics of the most diverse people, the only thing they have in common is their youth and a certain androgyny. In his painted portraits, Hasenauer offers a finely differentiated view of the alleged nature of idealistic figures. They are representations of concentrated reality.
