ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Dr. Rainer Fuchs, Deputy Director mumok, Museum of Modern Art Ludwig Foundation, Vienna
The STRABAG art forum shows the exhibition on occasion of the new publication of the artist book "Color Diary 1996 - 2012".
Christina Zurfluh was honored in 1996 with the forerunner of today's STRABAG Artaward International, the Bau Holding AG art promotion award. Since then, the STRABAG Art Forum has followed the artist's work development and exhibition activities. Some of her works enrich the STRABAG Artcollection.
Christina Zurfluh's paintings have between 50 and 60 layers. She notes the color of each layer and marks it with numbers. In this way, she can locate the colors and bring them out of the underground in a later step. The "Color Diary 1996 - 2012" documents the layer painting process developed and consistently followed by Christina Zurfluh between 1996 and 2012. The book can thus also be viewed as an archive of her oeuvre for this period. On the one hand, the recordings can be read like a code that supports the process of painting; on the other hand, they are themselves drawings or paintings that carry and thematize the process. The artist's book with a contribution by Rainer Fuchs, a literary text by Dagrun Hintze and a foreword by Martin Prinzhorn appears in the Passagen Kunst series.
The artist's book will be presented as part of the exhibition opening.
