In his exhibition, Georg Pinteritsch explores the motif of the garden as a metaphor and spiritual space. With the precision and seriousness of a medieval illuminator, he designs surreal worlds on his small picture panels that link heterogeneous pictorial elements from different historical and cultural contexts. Nature does not appear as a dangerous counterpart to man, but as a tamed cultural space that not only surrounds him, but literally permeates him. The landscape functions as a space full of meaning, nature as a garden of symbols, the environment as an extension of inner human states. Pinteritsch negotiates existential issues and social developments by using highly symbolic motifs, art historical iconographies, and general human topoi. As in the exhibition, he confronts his neatly painted cultural collages through precise spatial settings and installative interventions.
