“The artist's imagination is a world of possibilities that no work will ever be able to realize”. Italo Calvino's words apply to Aldo Giannotti. In fact, it seems to him that more than the work is concerned with the work, with the influence and impact of ideas - or even better: with the effectiveness and reality of possibilities. His drawings serve as instructions for exploring socio-plastic concepts, which are tested for resistance and potential by means of performative execution, installation or sculptural design. The focus is always on the relationship between people and their environment as well as the physical and symbolic infrastructure of the social space.
At the exhibition in the STRABAG Artlounge, Giannotti's sense of possibility exercises itself on the subject of architecture in the broadest sense. Familiar architectural concepts are taken ad absurdum, shaken in their naturalness and literally turned upside down. In this respect, the exhibition title Godspeed You! Architecture, which is to be understood as a blessing and an ironic warning at the same time, an important indication of what is at stake here: May the idea of architecture be pulled back and forth between real possibilities and possible realities without getting completely lost.
