ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Lucas Gehrmann, Curator Kunsthalle Wien

Benefit maximization, goal-orientation, efficiency increase, attention economy ... lead to success, profit, growth, recognition ... with as permanent hyperactivity as possible, says and believes Homo oeconomicus, who conquered almost all areas of civilization worldwide and never doubts the meaning of his mission for a moment . Skepticism, criticism and resistance do not find a common and convincing alternative concept. The artist duo Elisabeth Gabriel & Daryoush Asgar therefore designs places of retreat from the dictates of productivity, the denial of one's tasks and promises - actually waiting rooms in which one can survive self-sufficiently and think a lot. Revolutionary ideas can be born here as well as thoughts about the end of painting, a cultural restart based on the technologically Paleolithic state of the arts ... or simply nothing. Elisabeth Gabriel & Daryoush Asgar's thinking and waiting rooms offer stimulating, practical, useless and timeless designs and furnishings in any case ... as well as the required degree of absurdity and ironic detachment.
