Christina Chirulescu creates a quitely dramatic composition and an atmospherically charged mood. Her painting radicates simplicity and clarity, her images are light and transparent. The quality of Christinas paintings is based on extreme mulitlayerdness. On the one hand, this is true in a purely formal sense: The artist applies thin layers of paint to the canvas that are visible on the edges and generate transparency. There is nothing appearing planned or constructed or rigid. The loose brushwork also gives the impression that the painter works on pure intuition. At the same time, the clear composition of her images demonstrates that the artist is very conscious of how she selects and uses her tools. Form, color, motifs, contrasts are employed in a reduced and very decisive manner.
