Tomek Baran (Stalowa Wola/PL 1985) studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. In 2012 Tomek Baran received a recognition award of the STRABAG Artaward International. The STRABAG Artcollection contains early works by the artist in the technique tempera on canvas as well as works for which he primarily uses found objects. The earlier monochrome works show strictly arranged nets or grids, which are completely or partially visible on the canvas. However, the perspective, personal point of view, foreground and background cannot be fixed. The shift between interior and exterior space already points to Baran's later involvement with public space and the expansion of his installation work, whereby the artist also repeatedly refers to the steel industry and power plants of his hometown of Stalowa Wola. For some years now, Baran has also been integrating found materials such as furniture, pieces of wood, or fences into his work. In his works from the planets series, he also uses an old terry towel and an old canvas that he has used before.
